The staff of the Rising of the Shield Hero announced at the Virtual Crunchyroll Expo 2020 online event that Season Two will premiere sometime in 2021. A new key visual and promotional video has also been released.
The anime's producer, Junichiro Tamura, stated during the panel that they will try not to have a long wait between seasons Two and Three, since fans have had to wait for such a long time between seasons One and Two.
Masato Jinbo is directing the second season at Kinema Citrus and DR MOVIE, replacing Takao Abo. Keigo Koyanagi is again in charge of series composition. Masahiro Suwa is again adapting Seira Minami's original character designs for animation. Kevin Penkin is returning to compose the music.
Crunchyroll streams the anime and describes the story as:
Iwatani Naofumi, a run-of-the-mill otaku, finds a book in the library that summons him to another world. He is tasked with joining the sword, spear, and bow as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes and fighting the Waves of Catastrophe as the Shield Hero. Excited by the prospect of a grand adventure, Naofumi sets off with his party. However, merely a few days later, he is betrayed and loses all his money, dignity, and respect. Unable to trust anyone anymore, he employs a slave named Raphtalia and takes on the Waves and the world. But will he really find a way to overturn this desperate situation?
