An official website and Twitter account have been opened with the announcement that Yuuri Eda's Eternal Yesterday (Eien no Kinō) novel is getting a live-action TV drama in October.
Rio Komiya has been cast as Kōichi Yamada and Sora Inoue has been cast as Mitsuru Ōmi.
The Eternal Yesterday TV drama is set to premiere on October 20, 2022 on MBS' one-year limited drama slot "Drama Shower."
Keiichi Kobayashi is both directing and writing the series. Yuma Bandō is composing the music.
Kadokawa Bunko describes the series as:
Mitsuru Ōmi and Kōichi Yamada are 17 years old and classmates. They are opposites in personality and are strongly attracted to each other. One winter morning, Kōichi is hit by a truck. Kōichi stands up with a nonchalant look on his face, even though he must have been hit hard on the head. There is no pulse or heartbeat, but Kōichi is certainly "alive" and smiling as usual. Mitsuru accepts this contradiction. However, his classmates gradually begin to forget Kōichi's existence...

MAIN CAST:
Rio Komiya as Kōichi Yamada
Rio Komiya Comments:
My name is Rio Komiya, and I will be playing the role of Kōichi Yamada!
As I read the original story and turned the pages, I was moved to tears by the detailed depiction of Kōichi and Mitsuru's feelings.
This is my first time working with Director Kobayashi, and I have rehearsed and confronted myself with the role of Kōichi in order to make it realistic.
I am really looking forward to the completion of the film! On the set, Mr. Inoue, who plays Mitsuru, taught me a lot of things, and we were able to build a relationship of trust like that between Mitsuru and Kōichi.
I hope you can feel that through the play. Please look forward to the broadcast of "Eternal Yesterday."

Sora Inoue as Mitsuru Ōmi
Sora Inoue Comments:
I am honored to play the role of Mitsuru Ōmi.
When I first read the novel, I found it so innocent and beautiful that I naturally burst into tears. Mitsuru and Kōichi, in my own way, I tried very hard to depict the heartache and joy that only two people can relate to.
And I love this world that I was able to create only because of the director and screenwriter of this film, Mr. Kobayashi. I am truly happy that this is the first drama series in which I have starred.
I hope to be able to deliver this sad but warm coming-of-age story to many people.
