Stephenie Meyer has announced that Midnight Sun, the companion novel to Twilight, will be hitting shelves on August 4, 2020.
Novel Synopsis:
When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella’s side of the story. At last, readers can experience Edward’s version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun.
This unforgettable tale as told through Edward’s eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting beautiful, mysterious Bella is both the most intriguing and unnerving event he has experienced in his long life as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he let himself fall in love with Bella when he knows that he is endangering her life?
In Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyer transports us back to a world that has captivated millions of readers and, drawing on the classic myth of Hades and Persephone, brings us an epic novel about the profound pleasures and devastating consequences of immortal love.
Stephenie Meyer made some comments to USA Today about the story and the process of writing it.
“I know there are people who have been patiently waiting, so kindly, and I felt like I owed it to them to put it out as soon as I could.”
“It’s definitely darker, and I would say more desperate. The stakes are way higher from Edward's perspective.”
“That’s a huge concern with this book. I think people are not going to maybe have anticipated exactly what Edward was thinking and doing when he wasn’t onscreen, so to speak. I don’t know if it will be the Edward that they imagined. I think it might be an Edward that’s a lot different than that.”
Good Morning America also shared the announcement:
The first printing of the novel will have 750,000 copies in hardcover, large-print, e-book, and audio formats.
